Product Description

Against the background of two windmills, stands out the gaunt, tragic-comic figure of Don Quixote perched on the mare Rocinante; beside him his short, stout servant Sancho Panza on his donkey; several windmills are also featured on the tab of this fascinating stamp, issued in February 1997, commemorating the 450th anniversary of the birth of famous Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes Seavedra.

The author, Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616), born in Alcala de Henares, Spain, is now commonly believed to be the descendant of a Jewish family who had converted to Christianity, thus a "New Christian." His life was almost as adventurous as that of his two most famous characters.

The stamp with an information sheet are enclosed in a plastic protection sheet
