Stamp: Environmental Coastal Conservation
The December 2001 issue portrays a beautiful beach scene with golden sand in the foreground, a deep blue sea mirroring the azure of the summer sky contrasted against a gaily coloured beach umbrella on the shore. On the tab Coastal Conservation Environment Authority emblem is shown. Israel's Mediterranean coastal strip is rich in bio-diversity, landscape and heritage. However, human activity and natural processes are endangering the continued existence of life in the coastal waters and seashore, as well as the quality of coastal sands, cliffs, vegetation and archaeological remains. Israel's costal zone, bordered on the west by the Mediterranean Sea, measures about 270 km.
